Oral Presentations, Assessment - 31st May 13
The time has come to show us in class your presentation. Each group will be presenting their project to the rest of the class next week. In order to do it the best as you can, here you have the rubric I will use to evaluate your project. Have a look at it, it includes aspects such as content, visuals, pronunciation, etc. I'm already looking forward to hearing what you have learnt about the United Kingdom!
This is Britain! A Webquest on British Culture - 20th May 13
Over a month ago, we started learning about the peculiarities of one of the countries where English is spoken nowadays (certainly, the one English comes from!). Which country is this? The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, of course, or the UK for short. In order to get a wider knowledge on certain cultural aspects, our 3rd year students will be searching the Internet to produce a powerpoint presentation to be shown in class. This is their task:
Leonardo Da Vinci: a Truly Renaissance Man - 23rd April 13
Our 2nd year students have started learning about the Renaissance in almost every subject they study! One of the key names of this period is the Italian artist, scientist and inventor Leonardo Da Vinci. We are learning about his life and achievements. Our students have also researched other Renaissance personalities on the Internet and they have presented their findings orally to the class. I have made a selection of the best ones, which you can see below. I would like to hightlight Rocío Álvarez's project, as she took the time to make an Open Office presentation and show us a video on Galileo Galilei. This is some of the material we have covered in the English class:

British Music - 11th March 13
Do you usually listen to British music? What bands/singers do you know? Amelia, our language assistant, has made a fabulous presentation on some great British musicians. Not all the important ones are there, but this is just a little glimpse of how great and varied British popular music is. So if you want to listen to some of their music, go on youtube and type some of the bands in this presentation. Thank you Amelia, once again, for your effort and hard work.
Pancake Day - 21st Feb 13
This year, we decided we were not going to celebrate St Valentine's Day (our students already have lots of information about it). Instead, taking advantage of Amelia's presence this year among us, she told us about a celebration most of our students had never heard about: Pancake Day. If you want to find out more about it, look at this presentation, and then take the quiz:
Cracker Pictures - 29th Jan 13
A little late, but as promised, here you are the pictures I took in class while you were making your beautiful crackers. The pictures are of the 2nd and 3rd years. I am sorry I couldn't take pictures of the 1st years, who also made wonderful crackers with Auxi. Enjoy!
Christmas Crackers - 18th Dec 12
This year we are going to make our own Christmas crackers. But what is a cracker? I bet for most of you it is the first time you hear about them, but they are essential to a good British Christmas celebration. So, a cracker is a cardboard tube decorated with bright wrapping paper that looks like a sweet. The cracker is pulled by two people until it is broken. When it splits, there is a snapping sound. In the inside, there are usually a small gift and a joke or riddle.
The materials you will need to make your cracker are:

The materials you will need to make your cracker are:
- Nice wrapping paper, the lighter it is the easier it will be to tear.
- A small piece of white cardboard (un trozo pequeño de cartulina blanca, o de cualquier otro color).
- Cardboard tubes, (si no encuentras tubos de cartón, puedes usar cartulina)
- Jokes or riddles (I will give them to you).

- A small gift
- Curling ribbon (cinta para regalos)
- Glue, scissors, markers, cello tape.

Bonfire Night and Guy Fawkes - 14th Nov 12
Have you ever heard about Bonfire Night? It is a holiday people all over England celebrate on the 5th November and it is a very popular holiday. This celebration has its origins in English history, and it dates back to 1605, when some Catholic men, Guy Fawkes among them, tried to kill the Protestant King James I. Have a look at Amelia's presentation and watch a very interesting video to find out how British people celebrate this holiday nowadays.

Halloween 2012
Here are two great presentations Amelia made to tell us a bit more about Halloween. She used the first one with the younger students, and the second one, on the origins of this holiday, with the older students. Hope you like them!
Education in the UK - 16th Oct 12
The second years and I are learning a lot of interesting facts about school life in the United Kingdom. We have learnt to talk about school subjects, timetables adn school routines, and we have also read some interesting information on education in other parts of the world. That is why I thought it would be interesting to learn about education in the UK and I asked our English language assistant, Amelia, to tell us a bit more about her school days. Have a look at this interesting presentation she has shown us in class:
Making comparisons (8th April 12)
This is the presentation we have been looking at in class. You can watch it again to revise the rules for the comparative and superlative of adjectives.

WHAT'S THE WEATHER LIKE?
